Sun & Surf The Gold Coast is blessed with 57km of golden sand beaches, running from Tweed Heads to The Spit. The beach not only attracts visitors keen to play on the sand and swim in our crystal clear waters, it is also the home of some of the best surfing beach breaks in the nation. Riders can wax up their boards and challenge themselves at South Stradbroke Island, The Spit, Main Beach, Surfers Paradise, Broadbeach, Kirra, Coolangatta, Greenmount, Rainbow Bay, Snapper Rocks and Froggies Beach and Duranbah. With so many good breaks, surfers are sure to find a wave, no matter what the weather conditions are. Of course the surf can be dangerous and it is important that you swim between the flags and obey the directions of the brightly clad Surf Lifesavers. With a little sunscreen and common sense, a day at the beach is a Gold Coast must. There are more than 12 Surf Lifesaving Clubs on the Gold Coast, providing volunteer services. In addition, the Gold Coast City Council mans towers along the beaches for your safely. With all those beaches, it’s not surprising a vibrant culture has developed. Visitors can dine at the surf clubs and watch the lifesavers go about their important work on the glitterstrip. |
